Okeechobee Battlefield
Historically, the site was saw grass marsh
located between the historic shore of Lake Okeechobee and the pine
flat woods to the north. The Okeechobee Battlefield has tremendous potential
to become the principal heritage destination point for the Okeechobee
area. The site's historical significance is the perfect place for
an interpretive center/museum, as well as being the site of an annual
commemorative re-enactment of the battle. The proposed park could also
be linked to the Okeechobee trail that will follow the dike surrounding
Lake Okeechobee.
