Okeechobee Battlefield Purchased by State! At the Apr 4, 2006 Cabinet meeting, the Governor and Cabinet voted to purchase 145 acres of the Okeechobee Battlefield site for $3.2 million dollars. Rep Richard Machek worked tirelessly to keep this purchase alive and deserves our sincere thanks for his efforts. Attending the Cabinet meeting with Rep Macheck were: Shawn Henderson, Pres of The Friends of the Okeechobee Battlefield; Bill Steele, Seminole Tribe Historic Preservation Officer; and Dowling Watford, Okeechobee City Council.
